creative websites

I am getting my website close to the way I want it now (it is an ongoing process, sometimes a very ongoing process...) and I am starting to upload photos. With a lot of luck, I may someday be able to make a couple of bucks from it as well.
I was looking around at other websites when I came across this error page. Oh the life on the web...

a relief???

in my last post I said my laptop was stolen.
Now it was a nice laptop, a 17" Toshiba. I had installed Ubuntu, and had it set up just the way I like it, but the thing that was the most frustrating was the loss of data, especially photos, and most especially the photos of my kids at the fair from the week before...
After a bit of googling, I found this. I pulled the photos off the card and can now re-edit them...

loss for words

I am at a loss for words, more than normal. I woke up at about 1:00 in the morning on Friday, and noticed the hall light was on. I did not remember leaving it on, but I got up to turn it off, then I noticed the front door was unlocked. I also noticed the kitchen light was on. I was getting a bit freaked out, and then I noticed my laptop was missing along with the rent money my roommate just paid me...
Someone had pried open my living room window, traipsed around my apartment, until they saw me sleeping. I am sure the sound of them leaving is what woke me up.
But the good news is they did not take my camera, which was sitting right by the front door...
The thing that really sucks is all my photos that I had not backed up yet from my laptop are gone...

new server

I have mentioned I have a server at home and for the most part I have been very happy, however SME is starting to fall behind in a number of ways. I still keep it for my photo backup (largely because of the simple RAID), but for my website server, I have decided to try Ubuntu Server. At the same time I decided to upgrade my website. As I write this it is down, but hopefully it will be up and operational in the next day or two.
I also have a few other ideas I want to incorporate, but first things first.
